With a grand total of 69 points, Vermillion high school was crowned grand champion at the close of the two-day state high school music contests at the University of South Dakota here Friday afternoon. Washington high school, of Sioux Falls, defending champion, placed second with 53 points. The two leaders, far outdistancing any other com-petitors for the premier honor, held their relative position when Vermillion won first and Sioux Falls second in orchestra class A and the ranking was Sioux Falls, first, and Vermillion second, in class A band, the concluding event of the meet. Platte won first place? in class bands in the third Friday afternoon contest. Sioux Falls Band Wins To win the state's premier musical honors, the Vermillion high school contestants placed first seven times, second four times and third once out of 12 events entered.

With the winning went the possession of the beautiful plaque, symbolical of the state championship.
