A4 Saturday, July 2, 2016 siouxcityjournal.com 00 1 Elaine Koerselman HULL, Iowa Elaine Koerselman, 76, of Hull passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Sioux Cen- ter Health in Sioux Iowa, fol- lowing a brief illness with cancer. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Mid- dleburg Free Grace Re- formed Church. The Revs. Stephen Breen and Richard Koerselman will officiate.

Interment will be prior to the service Sunday in Capel Township Cemetery near Middleburg. There will be a prayer service at 1 p.m. Sunday at Oolman Funeral Home in Hull. Vis- itation will be after 5 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

You may express your sympathy at www.oolman.com. Elaine Jeanne Kolen- brander Koerselman was born on June 21, 1940, in Ada, the daughter of the Rev. William B. and Helene (Van Gorp) Kolen- brander. She graduated from Northwestern Col- lege in Orange City in 1962.

She taught third grade at Maurice-Orange City El- ementary School for three years, and was a aide at the Boyden Hull El- ementary School for sev- eral years. Elaine married Ben Ko- erselman on June 7, 1963, in Middleburg. They en- joyed 53 years of marriage on their farm in rural Hull. They had four children and eight grandchildren. Mrs.

Koerselman was a very active member of Free Grace Reformed Church in Middleburg, where she was currently involved in the Bible Study. She also taught Sunday School, Catechism, was a member of the guild, and helped in various areas at the church. Elaine enjoyed gardening, sewing, dec- orating, and crafts. She may be remembered most for all the cards of encour- agement she quietly sent through the years. Left to cherish her mem- ory are her husband, Ben; four children, Brenda Ko- erselman of Gilbert, Lynne and her husband Jeff Dykstra of Kansas City, Bruce Koerselman and his wife Tina of Hull, and Laryl Koerselman and his wife Emily of Boyden; eight grandchildren, Joel, Mark, Justin, and Megan Dykstra, Brooke, Brialle, and Tyler Koerselman, and Brynn Koerselman; two sisters, Marilyn Vander Kooi and Carole and her husband, Paul Aykens, all of Orange City; a brother, Dr.

Ron Kolenbrander of Radford, a sister-in- law, Muriel and her hus- band, Paul De Groot of Omaha; a brother-in-law, Richard Koerselman and his wife Faye of Gilbert; and many nephews and nieces. In addition to her par- ents, she was preceded in death by infant twin sis- ters, Donna and Dorothy; her parents-in-law, Ger- rit B. and Sophia (Vander Wilt) Koerselman; a sis- ter-in-law, Judy and her husband, John Visser; and a brother-in-law, Paul Vander Kooi. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Northwestern College in Orange City and the Luke Society in Sioux Falls, S.D. Myrna R.

Kreykes ORANGE CITY, Iowa Myrna R. Kreykes, 78, of Ames, Iowa, formerly of Or- ange City, passed away rsd ay, June 30, 2016, at her residence. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Com- munity Church in Ames. Inurnment will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery Colum- barium.

Myrna was born to Bill and Grace (Reinders) Schalekamp, on April 10, 1938, in Orange City. She graduated from Orange City High School in 1956 and went on to get her undergraduate degree in English education from Hope College in 1960. Myrna married Gary Kreykes on July 1, 1960. She spent several years teaching high school English in Jeffer- son, S.D., Little Rock, Iowa, and Iowa. Her next several years were spent at home raising their two daughters.

vari- ous coaching jobs then took her to Richland Center, Bozeman, and Mus- catine, Iowa. While living in Muscatine, she went back to school at the University of Iowa and completed her de- gree in library sciences. She worked in libraries in Mus- catine, Terrill, (while living in Estherville), and Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa. She ended her career as the Le Mars Community Jr. High School librarian, where she was awarded Teacher of the Year before retiring in 2001.

Her love of books and read- ing was evident through- out her life. She loved to be a part of book clubs, and also served on the board of the Le Mars Public Library. In her retirement, she vol- unteered to translate books into braille for the Iowa De- partment for the Blind. She also volunteered at several church youth programs in Le Mars, Spirit Lake, and Ames, as well as assisting with the English as a second language program at her church in Le Mars. Myrna and Gary retired to Okoboji in 2001, where they enjoyed many years of fun times with family and friends, and eventually set- tled in Ames in 2008.

Her greatest joys were spending time with loved ones and discussing books and poli- tics. Myrna is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer (Ju- lius) Weyman of Chatsworth, and Audra (Brian) Duster of Ames; her grand- children, Dirk and Rebekah Weyman of Chatsworth and Ben, Emily, Yetta and Charles Duster of Ames; along with many other extended family members who were also al- ways very near to her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant son, Dirk Jay Kreykes; her husband, Gary Kreykes; and her sister, Mary VanMarel. Betty J. Pettit SIOUX CITY Betty J.

Pettit, 80, of Sioux City died Thursday, June 30, 2016, following a long illness with at Countryside Senior Living Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Michael Catho- lic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Cecil Fay Doty was born on April 7, 1934, in Bassett, the son of Glenn and Mabel (Beck) Doty. He grew up in Nebraska and Wyo- ming. Cecil and Winifred Davis were united in marriage on Nov.

22, 1968, in Rawlins, Wyo. Cecil had various oc- cupations throughout his life, and especially enjoyed the work he did while farm- ing. He worked at Farmland Foods in Denison, Iowa, for 15 years until his retirement. He enjoyed farming, pho- tography, woodworking, gardening, and was very mechanically inclined. A favorite hobby was working with his CB radio.

He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as an elder and teacher. Survivors include his wife, Winifred Doty of Onawa; eight children, Kay Kluver of Sioux City, Anna (Tom) Hime of Onawa, Chrys- tal (Steve) Cloud of Sioux City, Jacquelyne Potter of Indiana, Jenell of Onawa, Jim (Betty) Kluver of Sioux City, Mark (Pam) Kluver of Danbury, Iowa, and Jeremy (Megan) Doty of Danbury; many grandchil- dren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grand- daughter; three siblings, Joann (Jim) Drinkle of Green River, Richard (Rose- anne) Doty of Fort Lauder- dale, and Linda Doty of Green River; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Mabel Doty; brother, Larry Doty; a son, Levi Earl Ber- man; and a daughter, Billie Jo Doty. Linda L. Watt SIOUX CITY Linda L.

Watt, 67, of Prescott, formerly of Sioux City, died day, June 29, 2016, at a Phoe- nix, i a following a six-month illness. At her request, her re- mains were cremated. There will be no funeral service at this time, how- ever a celebration of her life will be held later. Linda was born on May 20, 1949, in Moline, the daughter of Charles T. and Betty (Holbrook) Lang.

She graduated from Sioux City East High School in 1967. She attended Morn- ingside College. She married C. Jeff Watt on Jan. 21, 1977.

She had a 40-year career in the health and legal fields. Linda was of the Lu- theran faith. Over the years she served in many civic organizations. She enjoyed reading, walking, lunching with her girlfriends and seeing the great outdoors in their RV. After her re- tirement in 2011, she and her husband enjoyed trav- eling the United States in their RV.

She is survived by her mother, Betty Lang; her husband, Jeff; a daughter, Heather and her husband, Guy Berkenpas of Maple- ton, Iowa; a son, Chris and his wife, Merelo Watt of Prattville, four granddaughters, Madyson, Miranda, Mykaela and Ma- leah; one grandson, Brody; and two sisters, Terry Bue (Ron) of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Mary Mech of Minne- apolis. She was preceded in death by her father. Kelly C. Swanson WAYNE, Neb. Kelley C.

Swanson, 58, of Wayne passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Careage Campus of Care in Wayne following a short bout with cancer. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Catholic Church in Wayne. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Walthill, Neb.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield. Kelley was born on Sept. 8, 1957, in Sioux City, the daughter of William and Frances (Rossiter) Con- nealy.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Jo- Catholic Church in Walthill. Kelley attended Walthill High School, graduating in 1975. In 1987, she earned her bachelor of arts degree from Wayne State College. She worked for several years at Mi- Foods in Wakefield.

Survivors include her daughters, Sarah Con- nealy of Denver, Rachel Connealy of Nan- tucket, and Jordyn Swanson of Wayne; her mother, Fran Connealy of Wayne; sisters, Anne (Jeff) Hayes of Albion, Kaye (Tom) Posch of Ver- million, S.D., and Pat (Jon) Knutson of Schuyler, brother, Paul Connealy of Sioux City; and longtime companion, John Pflanz of Wayne. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Connealy; uncle, James Rossiter; an aunt, Betty Shields; and grandparents. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Harry W. Mastne, 91, of Crest- view, formerly of Da- kota City, passed away on Jan. 1, 2016. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Dakota City Cemetery, with mili- tary rites. Harry was born on Sept.

14, 1924. He was raised and attended school in Dakota City. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, aboard the USS Wasp. He was married to Mary Lambrecht on Nov.

19, 1945, at the Church of All Nations in Sioux City by the Rev. John Paul Hantla. They renewed their vows on their 50th anniversary, which was officiated by Rev. sons. Harry worked at various jobs and farmed.

He moved to Flor- ida in 1984. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary; five sons, Ronald, Harry, Roger, Ed- ward and Robert; a grand- daughter; a grandson; and his great-grandchildren. Sharon Wacker WALTHILL, Neb. Sharon LaRae Wacker, 73, of Walthill died Thursday, June 30, 2016, at a Sioux City nursing home follow- ing a lengthy illness. Services will be 11 a.m.

CHRISTINIA CRIPPES Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier CEDAR FALLS, Iowa The Iowa Board of Regents will hire a search firm to assist in the process of hir- ing the next University of Northern Iowa president. It an- Friday it is soliciting for qual- ifications from search firms and hopes to select the successful firm by the end of July. is important that we get a search firm in place so when we have our full pro- cess defined, we can move forward as quickly as possi- ble with the said Katie Mulholland, regents president pro tem, who is leading the search process. UNI President Bill Ruud announced in May he would be leaving the Ce- dar Falls university for the private Marietta College in Ohio.

His last day is July 2, and Provost Jim Wohlpart will begin filling in as in- terim president on July 3. Mulholland said having a search firm is a key com- ponent in developing the timeline and process for hiring the next UNI pres- ident. The process, as identified in the request for qualifications, should have a short list of firms identified by July 22. It will conduct interviews with the finalists between July 25 and 27 and then antici- pates awarding a contract on July 29. The firm will be expected to and the regents in the selection of the next president by assisting in the selection of the search committee members, in advertising the position, in ensuring the search process follows affirmative opportunity requirements, in conducting a background search on the final pros- pects and in recommending a final group of three to five candidates.

The firm will submit its fee structure as part of its submission to the regents, so the cost of hiring a search firm is not listed in the re- quest for qualifications. Mulholland stressed the board has been and will continue to reach out to the various constituency groups within the UNI community. want to get their input on what characteris- tics the next UNI president should have, as well as on the search Mul- holland said. Those three searches netted the same consultant firm of Parker Executive Search of Atlanta, Ga. Regents will hire search firm for UNI president Mulholland ASSoCIATEd PRESS PARKSTON, S.D. Authorities have a war- rant out for the arrest of a former Parkston High School head football coach accused of embezzling roughly $9,000 from the Parkston football team. Tony Axtell of Sioux Falls has been charged with felony grand theft, the Mitchell Republic reported. If convicted, the 29-year-old faces a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Authorities say the al- leged embezzlement oc- curred between Aug. 17 and Oct. 28. Parkston Superin- tendent Shane McIntosh said the missing money was raised by the football team and include school district funds. McIntosh said it was only discovered by chance that the money was gone, but he declined to provide additional details.

The school provided recom- mendations such as using multiple entities to count and control money to avoid a similar incident in the future, but the football choice, he said. just a check and balance in place.
