The Lady Chiefs, sporting a 5-1 record, will be in action every day but Friday this week while the Lady Chargers are booked for duty today, Thursday and Saturday. Morningside opens its Io-Kota Conference season at 4 o'clock this afternoon at Sioux Center against Dordt.

Briar Cliff, 1-9 overall and 0-2 in the Io-Kota, visits Buena Vista at Storm Lake today for two games starting at 4. After six games, Morningside's leading hitters are Stacie Roepke at .545, Brenda Bastow at .500, Daletta Fredinburg at .462, Nancy Young at .385 and Laura Grote at .375. Fredinburg has a 3-0 pitching record with two no-hitters, a 1.69 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 16 innings. She also leads the team in runs batted in with eight. Commenting on the team's opening week, Coach Gary Gevik said, "We're happy to be 5-1, and we played everyone In our doubleheaders last week.

I was primarily concerned about pitching and defense, but we did quite well last week, except for one bad inning against Nebraska Wesleyan." Continuing to shift his lineup, Gevik said today's first-game starters and batting order will be Grote, Young, Bastow, Roepke, Fredinburg, Deb Zediker, Cheryl Sandbulte, Cindy Gray and Julie Purdy with Natalie Nelson, Sandy Winter, Wendy Nelson, Lois Liibbe and Sherrie Hanneman getting opportunities in the nightcap. Briar Cliffs starting unit against Buena Vista will be catcher Petie Schwarz, first baseman Kim Lind-quist, shortstop Cindy Kraft, third baseman Linda Heffner, second baseman Lori Schackerer, left fielder Mary Boever, center fielder Nancy Falk, pitcher Mary Schroeder and right fielder Sue Schlickbernd. Now they can use their passes any time they want. Daily green fees are $3 for nine holes and $4.50 for 18 holes at the Floyd golf course and $3.75 and $5.50 for the Green Valley course.

The previous rate was $3 and $5 at Floyd and $4 and $6 at Green Valley. The new schedule calls for an annual $25 budget pass allowing $1 off the daily fee, with no restrictions on the use. Under the former schedule, the budget pass carried a 25 percent discount. Youth passes are the same under the new schedule as under the old, $25 for a 50 percent discount. They are invalid on holidays and weekends and youths 10 to 12 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older.

The City Council Monday revised green fees and passes for the city's two golf courses. The changes, worked out last week in a meeting between city staff members and representatives of the Greater Siouxland Golf Association, will permit the two courses to be self supporting, and, in the opinion of association spokesmen, should encourage more golfers to play the courses. Irv Sorensen, one of the spokesmen, said members will be doing a lot of promoting to bring golfers to the courses. The changes in the rates slightly reduce daily green flees below rates recently approved by the council. Some of the passes are revised.

It will provide a $150 unrestricted season pass for golfers 60 and older.
