40 The Sioux City Journal, Saturday, March 5, 1977 Original Wins Desserts I -1 2 cups sifted flour 2 teaspoons baking powder V2 teaspoon salt xk cup shortening cup milk 6 baking apples Va cup sugar 4 teaspoon cinnamon 1 tablespoon butter or margarine Milk Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; cut in shortening. Stir in milk; mix until soft dough is formed. Turn out; knead lightly. Roll Vfe-inch thick and cut into 6 squares. Core and peel apples place 1 on each square.

Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle into center of each apple. Add Vi teaspoon butter to each. Moisten edges of dough; press corners up over apples and brush with milk. Place in greased baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
